LEXINGTON, OH – Last year at Mid-Ohio, Gavin Ernstone stated he was “beat around like a little piñata” out on track. However, this quote was given in victory lane, so it’s obvious his competitors didn’t get the sweet reward they so desperately craved from all their bashing and banging.
They set out to right that wrong this year and punted Ernstone off the track twice during his stint, dropping him from 4th all the way to 13th. Ernstone survived the punishment and was able to get a drivable car to Morley, albeit one lap down by the time he got out of the pits.
From there, things actually started to go RSR’s way. Morley was able to get his lap back and charge up to 7th place before a late yellow came out and bunched up the field. Once the green flag fell on the restart, Morley made quick work of a struggling Mikey Taylor for 6th and set his sights on the mess of Hyundais in front of him.
Unfortunately, some uncooperative lapped traffic made him lose touch with the cars ahead and he was never able to close that gap back down. He crossed the line in 6th with a fistful of points and jumped the team from 5th to 3rd in the standings.
Next up for the team is a 4-hour race at Watkins Glen on June 26th. That race is followed closely by another 2-hour race at Watkins Glen the following weekend. You can see the full schedule of events HERE.
